Description/Abstract: The purpose of this book is to enable teachers to teach physical education in a way that encompasses social and personal development. For this reason, we must retain control of our subject and exploit it for the benefit of all. Physical education has a long history of claiming to promote affective behaviours in participants, and a wealth of recent research supports that idea. This value has been translated into a workable curriculum which espouses certain aims, for example promoting spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development and preparing children for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life. The values held are clearly stated in the outcomes and purposes of the National Curriculum and in the subject-specific orders
