Description/Abstract: Given the wads of cash at stake (and their dubious benefit), it's hardly surprising that even the Thriftless Threesome who run the state can't get to Square One on school aid. "Maybe we are just going to have to recognize that we are not going to get there," state Senate Majority Leader Joe Bruno groaned, following a meeting on the subject Wednesday with Gov. Pataki and Assembly Speaker Shelly Silver. The state, you see, is under a court order to provide sufficient funding to assure that New York City school kids get a "sound basic education."
