Description/Abstract: March Databases: Government & Education

Government refers to a group of people who run the country as found in the act of ruling. In March, we feature research resources that inform the topic of government and education, namely the administration, federal, state, and local, of school policies and practices.

America: History and Life is an index (with some abstracts) of literature covering the history and culture of the United States and Canada, from prehistory to the present.

ERIC is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education to provide extensive access to educational-related periodical literature, ERIC (which stands for Educational Resources Information Center) provides coverage of conferences, meetings, government documents, theses, dissertations, reports, audiovisual media, bibliographies, directories, books, and monographs.

EconLit is the American Economic Association?s database of the literature in economics, containing citations, abstracts, and full text for economic research dating back to 1969. Covers journal articles, books, collective volume articles, dissertations, and working papers, among other types of publications.

Education Full Text provides comprehensive coverage of an international range of English-language periodicals, monographs, and yearbooks. Indexing coverage begins June 1983; abstracts are included beginning spring 1994; full text of some journals is available beginning in January 1996.

Historical Abstracts provides citations and abstracts for publications related to world history, excluding the U.S. and Canada, from 1450 to the present.

Index to Legal Periodicals and Books covers the contents of over 1,025 international legal periodicals and law books, providing coverage of scholarly articles, symposia, jurisdictional surveys, court decisions, legislation, books, book reviews, and more.

International Bibliography of the Social Sciences is a valuable online resource for social science and interdisciplinary research, IBSS includes over two million bibliographic references to journal articles and to books, reviews and selected chapters dating back to 1951, providing broad coverage of international material and incorporating over 100 languages and countries.

International Political Science Abstracts indexes and abstracts articles in the field of political science (including the sub-fields of public administration, political theory, and international relations) published in journals and yearbooks published worldwide.

LexisNexis Congressional indexes information produced by or pertaining to the United States Congress from 1789 to the present. Provides full text for many titles, generally from the early 1990s to the present. Includes bills, laws, legislative histories, committee prints, House and Senate documents and reports, the Congressional Record, Code of Federal Regulations, and Federal Register.

PAIS (Public Affairs Information Service) International and PAIS Archive contains citations to journal articles, books, government documents, statistical directories, gray literature, research reports, conference reports, publications of international agencies, and Internet resources pertaining to public affairs and public policy issues; coverage from 1915 to present. Also available through the new ProQuest interface.

Professional Development Collection is designed for professional educators, this database provides a highly specialized collection of nearly 520 high-quality education journals, including more than 350 peer-reviewed titles. The database also contains more than 200 educational reports.

ProQuest provides broad multidisciplinary coverage of scholarly journals, newspapers, dissertations, and other types of publications; for international coverage and access to full texts of dissertations only, search Theses and Dissertations, a subset of ProQuest.

PsycINFO covers the scholarly literature in the psychological, social, behavioral, and health sciences.

Social Sciences Full Text provides coverage of English-language journals across social science disciplines, with indexing from 1983, abstracting from 1984, and select access to full text from 1984 to the present.

SocINDEX with Full Text offers comprehensive coverage of sociology, encompassing all sub-disciplines and closely related areas of study. The database contains full text for more than 860 journals dating back to 1908, more than 830 books and monographs, and over 16,800 conference papers.

Sociological Abstracts abstracts and indexes the international literature in sociology and related disciplines in the social and behavioral sciences, covering such major areas as culture and social structure, family and social welfare, history and theory of sociology, radical sociology, rural and urban sociology, and the sociology of the arts, business, and education.

Worldwide Political Science Abstracts provides abstracts and indexing of the international literature of political science and international relations, along with complementary fields, including international law and public administration/policy. The database provides abstracts of journal articles and citations to book reviews drawn from over 1,500+ serials publications and also provides abstracts of books, book chapters, dissertations, and working papers.
