Description/Abstract: August Databases: Smart Spaces

For August we feature select research resources that cover the literature of educational technology; computing and communications; cognitive science; and libraries, as we consider the use of space that supports a variety of intellectual work.

The ACM Digital Library is a comprehensive collection of full-text articles and bibliographic records covering the fields of computing and information technology. The full-text database includes the complete collection of publications, including journals, conference proceedings, magazines, newsletters, and multimedia titles of ACM, the Association for Computing Machinery.

Academic Search Premier is a multidisciplinary database providing full text for more than 4,600 journals, including nearly 3,900 peer-reviewed titles. PDF backfiles to 1975 or further are available for well over one hundred journals.

APA PsycNet is a single search interface for PsycARTICLES, PsycBOOKS, PsycCRITIQUES, and PsycEXTRA.

PsycARTICLES is a full-text database of journals published by the American Psychological Association and other publishers in subject areas such as applied psychology, health, theory, research, social/personality, and more.


PsycBOOKS is a full text database of books published by the American Psychological Association, classic books, and entries from the Encyclopedia of Psychology.


PsycCRITIQUES is a full-text reviews of current books and some popular films, videos, and software, as well as comparative reviews of books in the field of psychology.


PsycEXTRA is a gray literature database comprised of material written for professionals and disseminated outside of peer-reviewed journals; documents include newsletters, magazines, newspapers, technical and annual reports, government reports, consumer brochures, and more.


Applied Science and Technology Full Text contains indexing and abstracts for nearly 800 core English-language, scientific and technical publications back to 1983. Full text of articles is available from more than 220 periodicals dating back to 1997. Content includes coverage of a wide variety of applied science specialties--acoustics to aeronautics, neural networks to nuclear and civil engineering, computers and informatics and much more.

ED/IT Lib Digital Library is a source for peer-reviewed and published articles and papers on the latest research, developments, and applications related to all aspects of Educational Technology and E-Learning.

ERIC (Educational Resources Information Center) is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education to provide extensive access to educational-related literature. In addition, ERIC provides coverage of conferences, meetings, government documents, theses, dissertations, reports, audiovisual media, bibliographies, directories, books and monographs. The information is included in two files: RIE (Resources in education) and CIJE (Current index to journals in education).

Education Full Text provides comprehensive coverage of an international range of English-language periodicals, monographs and yearbooks. Indexing coverage begins June 1983; abstracts are included beginning spring 1994; full text of some journals is available beginning Jan. 1996. Indexing and abstracting coverage is identical to that of Education index and Education abstracts.

Education Research Complete provides indexing and abstracts for more than 2,100 journals, as well as full text for more than 1,200 journals, and includes full text for nearly 500 books and monographs.

Library Literature and Information Science Full text indexes English and non-English language articles and book reviews from library and information science periodicals, books, chapters in collected works such as conference proceedings, library school theses and pamphlets.

Library, Information Science & Technology Abstracts provides coverage on subjects such as librarianship, classification, cataloging, bibliometrics, online information retrieval, information management and more. Delivered via the EBSCOhost platform, LISTA indexes more than 600 periodicals plus books, research reports, and proceedings. With coverage dating back to the mid-1960s, it is the oldest continuously produced database covering the field of information science.

Professional Development Collection is designed for professional educators and provides a highly specialized resource of nearly 520 high-quality education journals, including more than 350 peer-reviewed titles. The database also contains more than 200 educational reports.

ProQuest provides broad multidisciplinary coverage of scholarly journals, newspapers, dissertations, and other types of publications; for international coverage and access to full texts of dissertations only, search Digital Dissertations, a subset of ProQuest.

PsycINFO covers the scholarly literature in the psychological, social, behavioral, and health sciences.

Science Direct is a database published by Elsevier for scientific research that contains abstracts, tables of contents, and full text of articles in the sciences, technology, medicine and social sciences.
