Description/Abstract: Two Englishwomen, Ann Austin and Mary Fisher, are the first Quaker colonists to land in Boston on July 11, 1656. Having left their missionary work in Barbados, Austin and Fisher advocate for women's equality and the anti-slavery movement, angering the Puritans and other groups who favor a central religious authority. After bring imprisoned for several years, Austin and Fisher are deported back to Barbados. |
