Description/Abstract: For three years, HBO, IOM (Institute of Medicine), National Institute of Health, Center for Disease Control, Kaiser and Michael & Susan Dell Foundation have been putting together a documentary to bring attention to the obesity epidemic. An HBO documentary, The Weight of the Nation, confronts the nation's obesity epidemic in a 4 part mini-series including: Consequences of Obesity Choices for Weight Control Children in Crisis Challenges to Making Change The free streaming program which airs on HBO will be shown in two parts, helping inform and support studies and research in physical and health education. Facilitating the Q&A on May 15th is Dr. Ray Marks, Teachers College alumna and Adjunct Professor of Health Education in the Department of Health and Behavior Studies. Dr. Marks served as Research Fellow in the Outcomes Section at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York and has received numerous grants, awards, and honors, including the SOPHE/CDC Unintentional Injury Fellowship Award, Cornell Aging Research Award, Andrew Stewart Research Scholar, John Dewey Scholar, Province of Alberta Fellow, and Arthritis Scholar. She has conducted extensive professional presentations, authored over 100 publications, and has served as a consultant to numerous universities, research groups and consortia worldwide in the area of chronic arthritis management and prevention.
