Louis Forsdale Collection Louis Forsdale was born in Greeley, Colorado on March 8, 1922. Dr. Forsdale attended public schools throughout Greeley and then attended college from the University of Northern Colorado. After college, he was admitted to an aviation cadet training program in the Army Air Corps. He trained in North Carolina and then trained in Yale University. When his training was complete, he was commissioned as 2nd Lieutenant and designated as the 'Commander of an Aerial Photographic Laboratory.' He was transferred to the prestigious Command and General Staff School at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. During this time period, Lt. Forsdale was first an assistant-in-charge and then in command of the command of the Instructional Aids Services, which could be referred today as an educational technology service. Also at this point in time, he met his future wife Elinor Wulfekuhler. When the war was winding down, he was invited to study and teach in Teachers College at Columbia University, where he earned his M.A. and Ed. D. Once his studying was completed, he was invited to become a full-time faculty member at Teachers College. He remained there for 37 years until his retirement as Professor Emeritus of Communication and Education in 1987. His professional interests were that of different types of communication, which includes the history of communication, nonverbal and verbal communication, and so forth. He died on September 22, 1999.
