Citizenship Education Project
The work of Teachers College in social studies education is amply documented in the Records of the Citizenship Education Project, 1949-1957, a program funded by the Carnegie Foundation that sought to develop innovative curricula and methods and to create new ways of bringing these products to teachers throughout the United States so that they might be widely implemented. The records document both the content of this experiment and the plans, procedures, and problems associated with implementation.

The collection includes correspondences, particularly those of Executive Officer William Vincent, as well as accounts, minutes, reports, studies, and printed material from 1949-1957, relating to the administration of the Citizenship Education Project (CEP), its conferences, seminars, workshops, and projects, particularly the Guatemalen Citizenship Education Project, ca. 1955-1958, which was based on the U.S. CEP. Examples of the printed materials used for instruction are included. The collection contains correspondence and research notes, and notes of interviews with people involved with the Citizenship Education Project, 1976, by Richard W. Streb, who was doing research on the CEP.
