Suniya Luthar is Professor of Psychology and Education, Teachers College, Columbia University, and Director of Child & Family Research, the APT Foundation, New Haven. She received her Ph.D. in Clinical/Developmental Psychology from Yale University. Conducted within the framework of developmental psychopathology, Dr. Luthar's research involves vulnerability and resilience among at-risk populations. Studies currently in progress focus on adjustment disturbances that can be prominent among children in wealthy families; adjustment processes among inner-city teenagers as compared to their more affluent counterparts; psychopathology and competence among substance abusers' offspring; parenting concerns among drug-dependent women; and group psychotherapy interventions for at-risk mothers. Professional honors include a dissertation award from APA's Division 37 (Child, Youth, & Family Services) and a Boyd McCandless Young Scientist Award from the APA's Division 7 (Developmental Psychology).
