Alice Rines Collection
Alice R. Rines was born in Vancouver, British Columbia, in 1920. She received her B.S., M.A., and Ed.D. degrees in nursing from Teachers College. Professor Rines first joined TC in 1955 as a Research Assistant in the Institute of Research and Service in Nursing Education. In 1960, she was appointed as an Instructor in the department of nursing education, and in 1966 as an Assistant Professor. In 1973, she became Associate Professor in that department until her retirement in 1985.
Prior to joining TC, Professor Rines was chairman in the departments of nursing at Fairleigh Dickinson College in Rutherford, New Jersey, and the Colorado Women's College in Denver, Colorado. Perhaps she was best known for and proudest of her pioneering work in community college programs in nursing.
Professor Rines was the author of many nursing books, including Nursing Concepts and Nursing Care, as well as many articles contributed to nursing journals.
