Benjamin Andrews Collection Benjamin Andrews (b. 1877) was a Professor of Household Economics at Teachers College from 1912 until his retirement in 1944. He earned an AB and AM from Cornell in 1901 and 1903 respectively, and a Ph.D. from Columbia in 1909. Dr. Andrews' research focused on aspects of household economics, family management, and consumer education. Of his many contributions to these fields, Dr. Andrews was known for his index of ten rules of family earning, spending and saving, which he contended, if regularly adhered to, could mean the difference between family bickering and a congenial home life:
Work and earn. Own your own home. Make a budget. Make a will. Have a bank account. Invest in safe securities. Record every expenditure. Pay your bills promptly. Carry life insurance. Share with others. Created By: Jeffrey Walker
