Esther McDonald Lloyd-Jones Collection
Esther McDonald Lloyd-Jones was a Teachers College Fellow in 1923, and received her M.A. (1924) and Ph.D (1929) at Columbia University. Dr. Lloyd-Jones joined the Teachers College Faculty in 1928 as an Instructor in the department of Student Personel Administration, where she became Acting Chairman in 1939, Chairman in 1941, and Department Head in 1955. From 1945-47 she was President of the Women's Faculty Club of Columbia. Professor Lloyd-Jones served as Director of the Teachers College Guidance Laboratory from 1933 to 1960, and was Associate Director of Personnel at the College from 1939 to 1946. Dr. Llodyd-Jones retired from Teachers College as Full Professor in 1966, but continued her work as Professor of Human Behavior at the United States International University.

Her publications record is long and includes books & book chapters, bulletins, and articles. Among these are: Student Personnel Work at Northwestern University (1929), A Student Personnel Program for Higher Education (1938 - with Margaret Ruth Smith), Redirecting Teacher Education (1938 - with Goodwin Watson & Donald Cottrell), Coming of Age (1941 - with Ruth Fedder), Student Personnel Work as Deeper Teaching (1954 - with Margaret Ruth Smith), Social and Cultural Foundations of Guidance: a Sourcebook (1968), "Social Competence of College Students" (1940), "Personnel Administration in Relation to Problems of Women" (1949), and "Women Today and Their Education" (1955).

Dr. Lloyd-Jones worked in a variety of capacities beyond the orbit of Teachers College. She served on the National Board and Executive Committee of the Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA), the Board of Directors of the American Association of University Women, and was Trustee of Elmira College (1956-62), Pratt Institute (1946-66), and Briarcliff College (1945-51). Dr. Lloyd-Jones also served on the Committee on Policies for Women in the Federal Service, a sub-commitee of The President's Commission on the Status of Women (1961).
