Ellie Drago-Severson is Associate Professor of Education at Teachers College, Columbia University. Her research and teaching passions include: school leadership; supporting adult development and capacity building in learning communities. Author of Becoming Adult Learners (Teachers College Press, 2004) and Helping Teachers Learn (Corwin Press, 2004), which was awarded the 2004 Book of the Year by NSDC, she is currently writing, Leading Adult Learning (Corwin Press, 2007), which further explores practices supportive of principal and teacher growth. A developmental psychologist, Ellie’s work is inspired by the idea that schools must be places where adults as well as children can grow. She served as lead researcher on the Adult Development Team of the National Center for the Study of Adult Learning and Literacy (NCSALL) at Harvard University and consults to school leaders on principal and teachers’ professional development and leadership for adult learning. She has served as teacher, program designer, program director, consultant, and staff developer in K-12 schools, higher education, businesses, domestically and internationally. Ellie conducts research, teaches courses and delivers workshops on leadership for adult development, mentoring, building teams, and enhancing school capacity. Her work has been supported with awards from the Spencer Foundation, the Klingenstein Foundation, Harvard Graduate School of Education where she served as Lecturer on Education for eight years. While at Harvard, Ellie was awarded the 2005 Morningstar Award for Excellence in Teaching.
