Since January 2002, she has been a faculty member in the Department of International and Transcultural Studies at Teachers College, Columbia University. She is affiliated with the Programs in Comparative and International Education and International Educational Development, as well as the Program in Anthropology and Education.
Her research examines a number of key issues in the fields of anthropology, comparative and international education, and literacy studies. These include ethnographic studies of communication, multilingual literacies, popular education, race and class inequality, and schooling across the Americas.
