George Bereday was a professor of education, sociology, and juvenile law at Teachers College, Columbia University from 1955 to 1983.
Bereday received his B.S. in Economics and Sociology from the University of London in 1944; the B.A. and M.A. degrees in History and Political Sciences from Oxford University; and the Ph.D. in Comparative Education and Sociology from Harvard University. He has served in various capacities to institutes, faculties and governments internationally.
Dr. Bereday was a Fulbright Professor, Tokyo University, 1961; Ford Fellow to Poland; Carnegie Fellow to Singapore, 1963; Fellow in Law and Political Sciences , The Law School, Harvard University, 1963-65; and member of various commissions and delegations to the U.S.S.R., Finland, Japan, and Western Europe.
Dr. Bereday has published extensively on the subject of comparative education. He was in the Polish cavalry and British Paratroops, 1939-45. He was decorated with the Cross Virtuti Militari of Poland, 1944. He has also traveled extensively and is proficient in eight languages.
